An
Egg Chair and Ottoman by Arne Jacobsen
for Fritz Hansen, dated 1970. Estimate £200 - £400
For Auction 22nd September
A masterpiece of Danish design, Arne Jacobsen designed the Egg chair in 1958 as part of a commission for the SAS Royal Copenhagen Hotel in Denmark. He created the perfect shape by experimenting with chicken wire and plaster in his garage. An insistent, perfectionist modernist he was a stickler for detail and took inspiration from other modernist designers such as his American contemporaries Charles and Ray Eames. The Egg chair has become a Danish design icon and is still being made by the Fritz Hansen company.
