A neon 'Blue Star' hanging sign, Newcastle Breweries

A rare find, this hanging lit up sign is in good working order, the five point 'Blue Star' representing the five founding breweries of Newcastle.

The star is commonly recognised as the branding of the Newcastle Brown Ale bottle, introduced to the bottle in 1928, the year after the beer was launched.

The sign for auction in the upcoming Antiques and Interiors sale was originally hung in the early 1960's on 'The Cauld Lad' public house in Hylton Castle, taking its name from The Cauld Lad of Hylton, the ghost of murdered stable boy Robert Skelton, said to haunt the ruins of Hylton Castle. The public house stood empty for many years before the site was purchased by a supermarket and the local icon was rescued.
