The Langs' Fairy Books are a collection of true and fictional stories for children, published between 1889 and 1913 by Andrew Lang and his wife Leonora Blanche Alleyne. Leonora was an author, editor and translator who assumed editorial control of the series in the 1890s while her husband Andrew edited the series and wrote the prefaces.
The authorship and translation of the Coloured Fairy Books is often and incorrectly attributed to Andrew Lang alone. Nora is not named on the front cover or spines of any of the Coloured Fairy Books, which all tout Andrew as their editor. However, as Andrew acknowledges in a preface to The Lilac Fairy Book (1910), "The fairy books have been almost wholly the work of Mrs. Lang, who has translated and adapted them from the French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, Catalan, and other languages."
The Langs did not collect any fairy tales from oral primary sources, however only they and Madame d'Aulnoy (1651-1705) have collected such a large variety of sources. The Langs indeed gave many of the tales their first appearance in the English language.
The Pink Fairy Book (1897) contains 41 Japanese, Scandinavian and Sicilian tales.

Fowler were the leading manufacturer of steam ploughing equipment from the 1870s. In use there would be two engines, one either side of the field. The wire rope on the drum under one engine was wound out and attached to a double ended plough. The other engines rope was attached to the other end of the plough. The plough could then be pulled across the field by each engine in turn, both engines moving forward as the ploughing progressed. This method prevented the heavy engines from compacting the soil as they would with direct action ploughing. Other implements could be used instead of the plough, to harrow or land drain fields for example. One particular job which is still the reserve of the steam plough engine is dredging lakes and rivers, the great length of wire rope used in steam ploughing being ideal for this job.
These models represent the class BB1 engine, the largest engine to see common use in the UK. With a twin cylinder compound, two speed gearing and a coal fired boiler. There is a crankshaft driven boiler feed pump with bypass valve, cable plough drum equipment with bevel gear drive and clutch, as seen on full size engines.

Orazio Andreoni (1840-1895) was a 19th century Italian sculptor based in Rome. His works in marble were of subjects after the antique as well as his own compositions of often historical or romantic works. He delighted in the richness of detail as can be seen here in the exquisite carving on the bonnet and clothing. He exhibited as far away as Glasgow, 1888, Berlin, 1892 and was active for a time in America, thus enhancing his international reputation. Indeed perhaps Andreoni's greatest contribution was his large workshop in Rome where a generation of sculptors received their training.
