Lot 368 -390
A collection of full and half Sovereigns, gold proofs and Krugerrands

To be offered for auction in our Antique and Interiors Sale on Wednesday 2nd October

Krugerrand's, first minted on 3rd July 1967 are a South African coin that was used to help market South African gold. The coin was produced by the Rand Refinery and the South African Mint. The Krugerrand name is a compound of the former South African president Paul Kruger, who is depicted on the obverse and rand, the South African currency, the coin had dominated the gold market by 1980 and accounted for 90% of the global gold market.  The coin was forbidden in the 70s and 80s in many western countries. This is suspected to be due to the association with the apartheid government of South Africa.
