Thou Shalt Have a Fishy ................... Art Glass Exbor Fish to swim under the hammer on Wednesday 24th July

The Novy Bor area in the north of the Czech Republic in Česká Lípa district has a long history of glass production. After World War II the glass factories in the Novy Bor region were nationalised and unified to form Borocrystal; later the name was changed to Borskà sklo and in 1974 the Crystalex company was created. In the 1960's Crystalex also established a division for the production of art glass that used the trade mark  "Exbor".

The concept for the range of Fish came after leading glassmakers Rozinek and Honzik saw Moser fish sculptures which were to be included in the World Exposition in Brussels in 1958.  Forms are lively, with cut details including mouths and fins.  The range was properly promoted in the Czechoslovak Glass Review in 1965 comprising of ten different coloured fish made in five sizes.
