The event raised a fantastic £10,000 and was held on Friday 13th April at the Gosforth Park Marriott Hotel.

All monies raised will be contributing to the further development of shooting and conservation projects with young people.

Lot 553 A Robert Heritage for Archie Shine, 1960's rosewood Bridgeford drum table
to be sold in our Antique and Interiors Sale Wednesday 11th April

In the late 50’s and throughout the 60’s Archie Shine, a British furniture manufacturer produced some high class Danish inspired designs. Pioneering the Scandinavian style in Britain, the Archie Shine range, particularly the Danish look was simple and elegant with long, low lines. With high quality craftsmanship and being well proportioned the Danish ranges became much more mainstream and popular in the 60’s.
Robert Heritage, one of Britains greatest mid-century designers, designed the famous Hamilton sideboard for Archie Shine, basing this on the classic Scandinavian, long, low line and won a Design Centre Award for the design in 1958. Heritage studied art in his hometown of Birmingham and then at the Royal College of Arts. Setting up his own studio in 1953 to focus on industrial design and consultancy. After designing the sideboard, Heritage’s design career continued to develop into the 60’s and he collaborated with some of the biggest names in furniture. In 1968 together with Ernest Race, Heritage designed the furniture for the Queen Elizabeth II ocean liner.

An extensive collection of Ralph Johnson, oil and watercolours for sale in our Antique and Interiors sale Wednesday 11th April

Ralph Johnson (1896 - 1980), was a Landscape painter, in oil and watercolour. He was born in Anfield Plain near to Consett. A builder by trade, Johnson chose to paint in his spare time using both oil and watercolour. In 1930 Johnson started to disuse oil and increasingly concentrated on using watercolour alone. Johnsons works were exhibited for many years at the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle and regularly showed in the Districts Art Society in Durham.  Johnson was vice president of the District Art Society for some time. Johnsons artworks were mainly of Northumberland, the Lake District and Scottish scenery.
A selection of Sunderland lustreware to be sold in our Antique and Interiors Sale on Wednesday 11th April

Sunderland Lustreware is a type of pottery originating from Sunderland, England.
There were several potteries located along the banks of the River Wear in Sunderland in the Nineteenth Century. Similar pottery was made in Tyneside (Newcastle upon Tyne and North Shields) and in Staffordshire they also received this designation in later years.

Normally found in pink lustre glaze the pottery has become widely collectable. Other colours such as yellow and orange are not common. Typically, the designs are religious plaques and jugs featuring the bridge over the River Wear or various heraldic - especially Masonic - devices. Most of the pieces available today were produced in Anthony Scott's Pottery in Southwick, Dawson's Pottery in Low Ford (now South Hylton), or at Dixon, Austin & Co., Garrison Pottery, Sunderland.

Adding lustre to pottery was not a new method. The lustring technique can be seen in wares from the middle east in the 9th and 10th century and was used by Wedgwood on their Moonlight Lustre from 1805 to 1815 and later on their famous Fairyland lustre pieces in the 1920s.
