It is a busy time at Boldon Auction Galleries - We are open on Saturday 10 - 1 and Tuesday 2-6 for viewing the General Sale (10am Wednesday 5th February) and currently cataloguing the March Fine Art and Antique Sale.
One of the lots already consigned for the Fine Art and Antique Sale 5th March is this charming Wilson Hepple watercolour. Estimate £3,000 - £5,000.
Wilson Hepple (1853-1937) was a local artist born in Newcastle and lived and worked until 1895 on Tyneside. Due to his increasing interest in animal painting he moved to the countryside to a small cottage on the banks of the River Coquet, devoting himself to specialising in this type of animal painting, producing hundreds of horse, dog and kitten paintings. He died at his cottage near Acklington and is buried in the local churchyard.
Interestingly although he never exhibited outside Northumbria he was able to establish a considerable reputation as an artist in the area of his birth.
