Large collection of Elastolin, Germany Cowboy and Indian figures, 30 in total - mostly 70mm (7-cm) and two 40mm (4-cm) with accessories including two campfires, canoe, part log cabin, double teepee with foliage etc.

Elastolin is a trademark used by the German company O&M Hausser for the toy soldiers and other types of figures it manufactured from composite material and later from plastic. Founded in 1904 the company ended in 1943 when the German economy was put on a 'total war' footing.  Elastolin composition figures were manufactured in 40mm (4-cm), 65mm (6.5-cm), 70mm (7-cm), and 105mm (10.5 cm) scales.  The Elastolin catalogues of the 1930's describe the 7-cm figures as being "normal size" (normalgrosse) and the 4-cm figures as Miniatur-Soldaten.

Who Let the Dog Out?

A Britains scale Johillco bulldog and kennel with "Beware of Dog" sign to be sold in the General Sale on the 21st August.

Johillco (John Hill and Company) was a British toy company specialising in the manufacture of hollow cast metal and later plastic toys.  This company ran a close second behind W. Britain in popularity and was started in 1898 by a former Britain employee F. H. Wood.  The main difference between the two firms was that John Hill and Co. sold their figures individually leading to increased competition when Britain's followed suit.

Bring out the big guns

A Britains Artillery boxed 18-in Heavy Howitzer No.2, mounted on tractor wheels for field service, dark green finish, with ammunition and extra shells will be entered for Auction in our General Sale on Wednesday 21st August.

The British company 'W. Britain' was founded by William Britain Junior in 1893 after he invented the process of lead hollow casting.  This process revolutionised the production of toys and soldiers and saw Britain become the world leader in toy production.  

In 1907 William Britain & Sons, incorporated as Britains, Ltd. with the family controlling the firm until 1984 when it was sold to a British conglomerate, Dobson Park Industries.  

In the 1950s, besides soldiers, a variety of vehicles began to appear, mostly in the military field. One such detailed diecast vehicle was this Artillery 18-in Heavy Howitzer cannon that fired toy shells. For a toy, it was intricately designed, with a special threaded post with rotating knob to raise and lower the cannon.

Artist's Profile

Bruno Tinucci has been described as 'the artistic voice of Tuscany.' A self taught painter, Bruno is inspired by the stunning scenery of his native land and employs a distinctive palette of vibrant colours to interpret both the appearance and the atmosphere of this most beautiful of landscapes. He has a unique ability to capture the eye-catching scarlet of a field of poppies, the golden shades of a sunflower, or the changing light of the seasons in his striking impressionistic oil paintings.

Bruno's paintings have been on display since 1972 in some of the most prestigious galleries in Italy. He has enjoyed a number of sell-out shows in Milan and Florence and he currently exhibits in over 25 permanent exhibitions throughout Italy. His paintings have been bought by both public and private collectors from all over the world.

At his 1974 exhibition at 'La Garda' in Milan, the Italian television art critic Mauro Innocenti said of Bruno Tinucci: ''The tradition of Tuscan Art that is represented in the so called 'Pittura Labronica' finds a worthy advocate in Tinucci. People nowadays are interested in artistic pieces of great value and that is exactly what Bruno Tinucci's paintings are. However not only does he keep tradition alive but he also expresses it with a modern style that shows his deep understanding of the lessons contemporary art has given us.''
