Lot 108 a collection of 18th century Indentures for auction 16th October from 10am

An indenture is a legal contract between two parties, that reflects or covers a debt or purchase obligation.  This was historically for both land transactions or indentured labour.  Some of the earliest surviving examples in England date from the thirteenth century.

Lot 108 contains a collection of Indentures dating from the 18th century.

Included in the lot is a Tripartie indenture dated 26th December 1754, between John Appleby of Barnard Castle and Fra. Hutchinson in the county of York, the third portion of the indenture, known as the foot was retained by the court.

Piece of Roman History to be offered for Auction

A Roman copper alloy ceremonial Chamfron (Horse's Face and Head Armour), circa 1st-3rd century AD, formed from three pieces of sheet copper-alloy, hinged with ferrous pins, circular cut outs for the eyes and buckles, the centre decorated with two repousse peltae (shields).

Due to the thin construction of copper-alloy as opposed to iron scale armour which was in common use by the Roman Army at this time, this piece would have been almost certainly part of a hippika gymnasia event.  A ritual tournament performed by the Roman Calvary elite to showcase their skill and expertise.
