The story of the Busby Babes is perhaps one of the most poignant stories in footballing history and included within Boldon Auction Galleries upcoming 26th February auction is a lot comprising ephemera and mementos relating to the team and its successes.
The ‘Busby Babes’ were the team of Manchester United footballers who progressed from the club’s youth ranks to the first team under the stewardship of the iconic manager Sir Matt Busby (1909-1994). A talented squad in their own right, they were on the verge of even greater success following triumphs in the 1948 FA Cup and the First Division title in 1952. However their story was cut tragically short in February 1958 when the plane they were travelling on from Belgrade, formerly Yugoslavia, crashed and killed 22 of the 40 on board in Munich.
