Lot 478
A large silver salver with moulded shell and scrolled border on four scrolled feet. The salver depicts six Newcastle upon Tyne buildings including the Laing Art Gallery, the former Newcastle Library, the Town Hall, St Nicholas Cathedral, The College of Medicine, Armstrong College and the Education Office, also Newcastle coat of arms and inscribed "This salver and a purse of gold were publicly subscribed for and presented on behalf of the subscribers to Mr Alfred Goddard by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne (Sir Joseph Baxter Ellis J.P) in recognition of the splendid services rendered by Mr Goddard to the City of Newcastle upon Tyne during a period of 35 years as the only Clerk to the late School Board from its inception to its close and the first secretary to the Newcastle upon Tyne Education Committee 30th September 1906", London 1906, stamped Reid and Sons Newcastle upon Tyne.
